LMT Safety Town, a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization,
was founded in October of 2004 by Suzu Henderson, a
stay at home mom whose first of five children had
attended a Safety Town program in West Virginia. After
relocating to Pennsylvania, she wanted to fill a void by
establishing a Safety Town in our community. In order
to do so, Suzu rallied her friends and their resources to
establish a local incarnation of this program. Through an
entirely volunteer effort, Suzu and her board of friends
managed to fundraise and solicit the community support
necessary to bring LMT Safety Town to our community
in 2005.
Since that time, LMT Safety Town has provided
nearly 900 local children with safety-related education in a
fun, kid-friendly way. Our goal is to be able to educate
approximately 200 additional children every summer!
Our Board of Directors is still made up of volunteers,
just like when we began. We still rally friends and our
mom and dad resources every year to make this work. Our
ultimate goal is to make LMT Safety Town a rite of passage
for every young child in our community. Only through
community support do we move closer to this goal every
year.
